Hi All! I want to get health rule violations via API from the controller. For applications, it works well. I followed this guide: https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO45/Events+and+Action+Suppression+API Though, I want to extract the health rules and the violations for Servers and Databases as well. But I did not find the correct API endpoint for these. Has anyone tried similar before? Any clue/hint would be much appreciated 🙂 Best, Sandor

So answering your question this KB article is good. If the container runs under a user which does not have a privilige, you need to add it to the proper docker group. However, it may happen if you don't start the container properly you may get this issue as well. So would be great to add to this KB that you need to check if the mount is properly configured.

Hey Guys! If you want to run it on K8S the official gitrepo currently has a bug. The issue here is that there was a commit which removed some important line from the appd-machine-agent-analytics/deploy/machine-agent.yaml file. You need to mount the proper directory, so you need add the follow - mountPath: /var/run/docker.sock name: docker-sock If you are trying to run it in plain docker with compose you can try this repository: https://github.com/Appdynamics/docker-machine-agent/blob/master/docker-compose.yml Here you can see that the /var/run/docker.sock is also mounted: volumes: - /:/hostroot:ro - /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock

Hi All! I was just wondering is there any specific recommended order to install the machine and the APM agent? Does it matter if I install the machine agent first and after that the APM agent? What about the start order? Should I ensure that the machine or the APM agent start first after a reboot? Thank you for your help! Best, Sandor

Hi All! We are using the syslog functionality of the analytics agent to collect data. The logs may be from the past so the creation timestamp is also in the past. My problem is that AppD always considers the ingestion date as the "timestamp". We can extract the timestamp from the message with regexp but we are not able to use it for charting. So when we bulk load logs into AppD we try charting we can use only the "ingestion" timestamp so the chart/widget won't be accurate at all. Do you know who to work around this? We want to use customer timestamps so that we can create accurate charting. Best, Sandor

Hey Mehbubur! You just need to rename the machine agent unique-host-id. See my last post. Hope this helps:) I reinstalled the agent and tested again and yes, as soon as the machine agent starts, the "Databases" -> "Dashboard" for the DB server stops. I killed the agent and the DB Agent collection began reporting again. I then changed the machine agen'ts controller-info.xml by setting the unique-host-id as the short hostname with a "-ma" <unique-host-id>examplehost-ma</unique-host-id> I started the machine agent and after 5 minutes, the DB Agent collection is still reporting data as expected.

What is the uniqid/hostname you use in the machine agent? Try to add a JAVA-MA extra string to the name. If you are using the default naming for machine agent on a DB instrumented with a DB collector AppD gets confused. So try to change the uniqid/hostname in you machine agent config.

Hi All! I have an MS SQL box which is monitored with an appd agent collector. I also wanted to install the machine agent on the MS SQL box to make sure I get even more HW metrics. (Also HW monitoring with the DB collector due to WMI policies is not possible). However, when the machine agent is running no SQL data is captured. If I stop the machine agent on the SQL server the data collection starts again. Is there any way to run a machine agent on a SQL box? Best, Sandor

Hi All! I tried to apply the EUM monitoring to one of my web browser application. I can see data on the USer experience tab like Page Request per Minute or Browse/DEvice type. However, I got this error message in the End User Time distribution widget. Hi Sandeep, thank you for the answer. So, I need to follow the steps described here: https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO43/Collect+Log+Analytics+Data+from+Syslog+Messages This is about apache web server, but this can be a switch/storage anything which is able to send log to a syslog server. So theoretically with this I am able to collect logs from a switch and SAN storage and put the healths events on a dashboard along with the application data. That way I can see on one dashboard if anything wrong with the whole IT infra/app side. Is that correct? Best, Sandor

Hi All! I am trying to understand the log analytics features. Can I import any kind of log and do analytics on them? According to the link and picture below I can import networking (switches,routers) and VMware or even LDAP or Load balancer logs as well. I did read the documentation and did also google searches but I did not find any real description how I can do that. Hi All! I have found this Nagios extension on the community portal: https://github.com/Appdynamics/nagios-monitoring-extension Has anyone already tried it? I am a little bit confused how we can use this. Can we simply pull all the metrics from Nagios and put it on a Dashboard? The github page talks about the machine agent and nagios script connection. What does it mean? Can we only gather the data supplied by the nagios scripts where machine agent runs, too? What about devices using snmp to send data to nagios? like switches or storages?
