I am in the process of integrating AppDynamics with our build tool. I am going to add a step in the build to create an APPLICATION_DEPLOYMENT event whenever there is a code deployment to the production server. I have experimented with the event generation API and have it working. The API documentation states that events have a lifespan of two weeks unless the event is archived. Is there a way to have an event automatically archived as we want to have deployment events last for a year? Is there another way to capture what we need? Dale Chapman ... View more

Our organization has been using the AppDynamics Java agent with IBM Websphere for a number of years. This is our first attempt to get the Java agent working with Tomcat. When the Tomcat application server starts up, we get Connection Refused error messages in the java agent logs. I have been trying to find or create a way to monitor an Oracle SQL query for elapsed time. I decided to try to use the Command Watcher extension on the Machine Agent for Linux.  I have created a small Java program that takes the system time at the start, opens a connection, runs the query, retrieves the first row of the result set, calculates the elapsed time of the program and then returns that value using an exit() call.  When I run the program in a linux shell, it functions perfectly. When I configure the Command Watcher to execute the Java program, I consistently receive a "NoClassDefFoundError" when attempting to load java.sql.Date. I have tried to manipulate the classpath to include the rt.jar file directly and still encounter the error.  Is either the CommandWatcher, or the machine agent in which it runs, configured in such a way as to prevent the use of java.sql package? If so, how can I get around this? If not, what am I missing when attempting to run this program inside of the CommandWatcher? Dale ... View more

I have a requirement for reporting on the performance of a specific query in Oracle. The performance of this query serves as a proxy for the performance of a very old Oracle Forms application. I have been looking for a way to gather this data but so far have not been able to find a way to do it in AppDynamics. The query needs to be executed every five minutes and performance data needs to be reported on this query. So far, I have looked at the SQL extension and Custom Metrics from the database agent. Both of these options would give me the ability to submit the query, but neither of them seems to gather execution times for these queries. I have looked at trying to write an SQL in Oracle that would return timing for a query but I have not been able to find something that will work.  Does anyone have any suggestions? ... View more
