It only requires http access. You can even monitor multiples instances from the same machine agent.

In the lite edition you can only monitor one machine with the machine agent if I remember well.

With the trial license, you cannot indeed do Server Monitoring but you can do basic Machine monitoring with the machine agents.
If you want to monitor the Docker environment, you can run the extension https://www.appdynamics.com/community/exchange/extension/docker-monitoring-extension
If you want to monitor Docker containers, ie monitoring the container itself, you need to wait a little bit more, we are on the way to provide a new version of the Machine Agent Docker container-aware. Stay tuned.
If you need a license for Server Visibility, you need to contact your sales representative. Let us know if you need help for that.

Hi user, welcome in the AppD forum.
Is that a new installation? I'd check your controller version (click on the question mark on the top right corner and "about AppD") and check the agent version.
Agent versions should be lower than the controller's one.

Extension found the community site are free. You need to use a machine agent deployed on a server with an APM agent already deployed (Java, .Net, PHP etc). If you instrument with the Java agents then you need to have free licenses for that, as regular Java applications. Cheers JB

What's your controller version?
Have you checked the license screen? Have you reached any limit in term of license tokens?

Sorry for the poor experience you had with that forum. If you are a paid customer and want to drive this through support, you can use the AppDynamics portal to log a ticket.
However, i may have an idea for your problem. Just a confirmation: is that 4.3?
If yes, on 4.3, when generating the Machine Agent using the Getting Started Wizard, the account name used is the Global Account Name, instead of the Account Name. So you need to change that in the controller-info.xml file.

Hello Y,
The use case you are describing would be well addressed by AppDynamics Log Analytics. If you don't have / know this module, you should talk to your AppD sales team in your region.
You can also use this free extension here https://www.appdynamics.com/community/exchange/extension/log-monitoring-extension/
But it will only help you to create a metric representing the number of occurences of your keyword

Even with a Lite version (when out of the license), you should be able to connect to the controller.
Have you tried locally on the Controller server to do the telnet / use the local browser?

You only need 8090 accessible from the agent to the controller. Agents act as HTTP clients, Controller being the server (it listens on port 8090).
When you talk about the Windows firewall are you talking about the Controller windows or the agent windows server? The one to be configured is the Controller one's.
But yes, you need to check with your network / security team if there's a firewall in between the 2 servers (agent and controller).

Dear Prashant, For a standalone Java application, you need to configure POJO as custom entry point in transaction detection. Otherwise AppD won't detect any activity out of the box. So you need to declare some class/methods as entry point to start detecting activity and therefore see something on the flow map. You can find relevant info in the documentation. Pls let us know how it goes. JB
