Appdynamics appears to have some public docker containers, are any setup with a controller , I would like to do a proof of concept

unless you see it officially listed on the https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO43/Controller+System+Requirements assume it is not supported. As of now it is not there and I do not see it being added anytime soon as well to supported environments to run the controller on.
