Automate monthly report generation

Hi,

I would like to automate a monthly report that I pull manually through a database. The report is fetched in a way that a query is run on the database and it fetches the data and send the report in excel to specific recipients.

Please let me know the step wise procedure on how to start the automation through splunk and is anything else is needed.

Thanks!!

Your question is light on details, but these steps should get you started.

1) Install Splunk DB Connect
2) Create a DB Connect connection to your database
3) Set up a DB Connect input that matches your manual query.
4) Schedule a query that invokes the input above and replicates what you do with the data in Excel. The query should run once a month. When scheduling the query, choose the option to have the results emailed.

You can schedule a saved search in Splunk and then use dbxoutput to update the DB:
