You can either run Splunk as root( not recommended) or change the permissions so that Splunk can read them.

What are the permissions on /var/log? This directory is not readable by anyone other than root by default.

UPDATE: I finally fixed the issue with my data models. After doing some troubleshooting I determined that the data was not normalizing, so I downloaded some add-ons and the data models started building and were searchable within a few minutes.

UPDATE: I still have not fixed this issue but have noticed that whenever I run a search for the tags associated with the data models that are not building, I get 0 results. So I created one of the tags to see if this would fix this issue. The search found the events but matched 0 of 1,879,456 events. Maybe the tags not existing or being able to find the data could be associated with the data models not building?

I have recently rebuilt our server that hosts the Enterprise Security app here and I am having trouble with some of the Data Models not building. I have tried stop and restarting the acceleration of the models and they all still get stuck at building. Does anyone have any ideas why this may be?

I am having a similar issue with the Network_Traffic data model but mine is stuck on building and has been for a few days. I tried turning off acceleration and turning it back on to see if that would fix it but it still just stays on building.

Ok, That search returns a ton of results. I have made some progress and have got my identities and assets lists created in ES. Some of the issues I'm having now are:
1. The two lists do not share a common value, so I'm not sure how to merge or if they can even merged
2. When I run a search Asset/Identity Investigator, It returns a lot of bogus PII events. I do have the demo data disabled, So I'm not sure why these events are being labeled as such.

So I recently had to nuke the search head that our Enterprise Security app was running on. I have reinstalled everything and setup search peers but I am having trouble getting any of the dashboards to display any data. Any help with this would be appreciated.

So I keep getting this error:
Dispatch Command: The minimum free disk space (3000MB) reached for /opt/splunk/var/run/splunk/dispatch.
So I went in and manually cleaned out the folder using rm -rf yesterday and the error still persists this morning even when the directory is completely empty. Has anyone else had this issue before?

I recently had this issue as well and removing the role from the passwd file in the Splunk home directory fixed the issue. In my case it was looking for the "windows-admin" role, which was not listed in the available roles. This problem prevented me from creating accounts, editing accounts and creating roles. I noticed that one of my other indexes that was recently rebuilt has that role as well but it has no issues, so I'm assuming that this a default role when Splunk is setup and it somehow got removed from the roles on my other index.
