Okay, good to know. I was following Stack Overflow guidelines because this site is a Stack Overflow clone. One way to do this is to click the column name and it will bring it to the top, it will also sort the chart by highest to lowest. e.g. you couldn't have the column total at the top and have the lowest value below it.

Welp, just came across your question and was wondering the same thing, not great news:
Splunk SPL uses the asterisk ( * ) as a wildcard character. The backslash cannot be used to escape the asterisk in search strings.

In my case it was the use of / in the report name as in Origin hits/day (-7days) . This is a bug in Splunk. If you don't have a / look for another character that could be throwing it off for just panel usage.
