Invalid username and password

Hello Team,
I have just created a splunk in windows XP running in vm.
I am unable to login to the splunk, it showing invalid username and password.
I have tried changing the password file back to password.bak and still i am not able to login with the default username and password.
Please help me.

Make sure you restart Splunk after changing the passwd file name.
Also just to be absolutely sure, the username is admin and the password is changeme by default.

If you do that then it should work absolutely fine, otherwise it might be quicker and less time consuming to just do a clean install if this is just a test setup
