install splunk 8.0.1 on windows server 2012 R2

Splunk 8.x.x is supported only on Windows Server 2016, Server 2019 (all installation options) and Windows 10, as you can read at https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.2/Installation/Systemrequirements .

Probably it runs but it isn't supported by Splunk.

I just tried it and the installer just stops and reverses the install, Spunk 8.x.x does not work on windows 2012 at all

I have to disagree. It worked for us but:

• It was an upgrade, not an installation from scratch.
• We upgraded from 7.3.9 to 8.1.10.1
• We are using Splunk as a DS and a HF in that server.
• We did this because it was our only option due to several reasons.

This is not supported by Splunk so I would not recommend to try it with IDX or SHs or if you have other supported options
