Do you have to upgrade universal forwarders when upgrading Splunk Enterprise?

When upgrading splunk enterprise do you have to upgrade the universal forwarders also. Running 5.0.2 enterprise and 5.0.3 forwarder and trying to upgrade enterprise to 6.1.2 and wondering if I need to upgrade the universal forwarders as well.

Hello,
You don't need to upgrade the forwarders. The indexers are backward compatible. But if you have cluster upgrade them to same versions.
