Hi, we are trialing AppDynamics, installed the .NET agent and connected to controller. Hardware data such as memory, CPU shows - but nothing under errors, transactions, databases, etc for APM. transaction detection is set to automatic, so is backend detection.

Please advise. my direct email is kb@computersupport.com

Hi KB,

Could you please attach the "DotNetAgent" folder present on the agent machine for our initial review. This will help us review the logs and other configurations. The path of the folder would be -

If the agent machine is Win 2003 Server - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AppDynamics\DotNetAgent\
If the agent machine is any other windows machine - C:\ProgramData\AppDynamics\DotNetAgent. Please note that the folder "ProgramData" is hidden by default

Regards,

Gunjan.

Hi KB,

Thanks for sharing the logs. From the logs, we noticed that you have configured the IIS applications with automatic configuration. Also, noticed that there is no traffic on the IIS hosted applications. To see the metrics in the controller, please generate the traffic on the IIS hosted applications. Once you start accessing the applications, the AppDynamics will hook into the CLR process and will start collecting the metrics and then it will send them to the controller.

Please let us know if you still face any issues.

Thanks,

Venu.

There is traffic, but its very light. We have another APM and it detects about 10 sessions per day. Please confirm the steps to make AppDynamics work properly.

Hi KB,

Thanks for the update. Do you have the other APM installed on the same server where .Net Agent is present. If this is the case, .Net Agent will not work as windows allow only one profiler per machine. If this is not the case, then please let us know the below details to troubleshoot the problem further.

1. What type of the application you are trying to instrument - Asp.Net/MVC/WCF/Web Service etc.,

2. Which .Net framework version is being used to build the applications?

3. Generate some traffic on the configured applications and share with us the zip of latest "DotNetAgent" folder from the server.

Thanks,

Venu.

Hello there.

Got exactly the same problem.

I found no solution on this forum or outside, and it seems I can't post new topic, so i'm replying here.

I'll explain briefly my situation:

I'm looking to monitor (quite a lot of) WCF services hosted in dedicated exe applications (.net too) on a windows server 2008R2.

I've installed the controller on my office destop (for this 2 weeks trial, machine is Windows 7 64bits).

I've installed the .NET agent on the windows Server 2008R2, configured the config.xml (you'll find it attached with the dotnetagent folder + a screenshot of my appdynamics Home) and everything seems to be well configured.

Problem:

However, when I try (launch AppDynamics.Agent.Coordinator, lauch my exe process) only hardware stats are gathered and displayed on the appdynamics controller.

I have a hard time finding out why other stats are not received/displayed.

I've tried to make a super simple winform application, with 2 buttons. (just to try something even simpler). I've configured it, but same problem, no data are sent to the controller.

Attachments show my current configuration,

3 stand alone applications:

1st is CT_IOCSERVICESLAUNCHER_CRUDETRACKING.EXE and host 5 wcf services.

2nd is a super simple test windows form application

3rd is the same test windows form application, but in debug mode (yeah, i've tried a couple of options here)

Thanks in advance for any help! My company would like to use this product (and we have tons of process to monitor)

Thomas.

ps: Where should collected data go on the processing machine? In the data.xml file?

I would really appreciate some help here.

If there's too little detail, or if I should post somewhere else, let me know, i'll give more information or move my post.

Thanks

Thomas.
