customJavascript - app names only alphanumeric characters and underscores

I am getting an error when I try to launch my dashboard using a customJavascript:

An error occurred while reading the page template. See web_service.log for
more details

The web_service.log has the following message:

app names in the SideviewUtils module can only be made of alphanumeric characters and underscores

Why is there a restriction on the app name for the SideviewUtils module, but no such limitation for Splunk in general?

This is talking about the name of the app's directory on disk, not the pretty name that gets displayed in the UI, and there was a bug fixed back in Sideview Utils 2.4.2, whereby it failed to account for legal hyphen characters in the app directory names.

What is your app name? If your app name has a hyphen character in it, just upgrade to the latest (2.4.5).

Sideview Utils validates those params and checks the app and file names explicitly basically out of paranoia. I want to make sure that the feature can't have directory traversal bugs or be circumvented to include any other files that are not in some app's appserver/static directory.

Cool. Sideview Utils has a pretty big and active customer base so tons of things are getting fixed and improved all the time. The release notes ( http://sideviewapps.com/apps/sideview-utils/release-notes/ ) might help sell the upgrade -- If you're back on 2.2.8, the release notes are showing about 48 bugfixes and improvements since then.

My application name has hyphens in it. I'll encourage an upgrade to take care of this. Thanks.

By the way, I am using Sideview Utils 2.2.8
