Why would a Technology Addon have UI panels?

Am referring to Cisco Security Suite.
Am able to see UI panels in the Splunk_TA_cisco-wsa. What would be the purpose of them?

Hi,

there are three possible reasons:

  1. The most common one is configuration requirements. While some Technology Add-ons are so simple that they just do knowledge mapping of data that something else gathered, others have fairly complex user experience requirements. However, Cisco WSA isn't one of these.
  2. The second thing that comes to mind is complex reporting... for instance, the AWS Add-on includes some Billing reports because AWS Billing is not easy.
  3. The third thing is that people are often trying to figure out if the new add-on did anything, and a couple of default report panels are good for that.

We've been trying to solve that second problem through Splunk 6.2's new prebuilt panels capability wherever possible, and the Cisco WSA Add-on is certainly one of those cases. It doesn't ship with anything user visible, but it does have some prebuilt panels that you can use when you make a new dashboard. We're doing this in all of the new Splunk-supported add-ons, but you should only see UI panels if a user has selected to show them.
