What is the difference between ‘box add-on’ and ‘box app’?

There seem to be two downloadable installers for integrating with Box - ‘splunk add-on for box’ and ‘box app for splunk’. What is the difference between the two?
The add-on published date is much more recent,

Splunk Add-on for Box (https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/2679/) is a Technology Addon, developed by Splunk, which is used to collect data (user, group, tasks, comments and events) from any BOX account. For that, you have to configure one box account. Check doc (http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/AddOns/released/Box/Setup). This app contains some useful prebuilt panels (UPDATED: Now this Addon doesn't have any prebuilt panel).

Box App for Splunk (UPDATED: This app is currently not available on Splunk Base ) (https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/1807/) is an app which is used to collect data (user, events) from Box account. This app also contains useful dashboards and panels. Box App for Splunk is an open source application and not actively maintained or updated.

So I prefer to use Splunk Add-on for Box b'coz it will provide more data and it is developed and maintained by Splunk.
