Streamlining Data Management: Introducing a unified experience in Splunk
Managing data at scale shouldn’t feel like navigating a maze. As your data estate grows, so does the complexity of onboarding, routing, and monitoring that information. Navigating between disparate apps to manage your data can be disjointed and time-consuming.
Today, we are excited to share how we are simplifying your workflow with a unified Data Management experience in Splunk Cloud Platform and Splunk Enterprise.
Key Takeaways
Centralized Hub: Combines input configuration, pipeline processing, and health monitoring under a common app interface.
Zero-Downtime Transition: Existing configurations and pipelines remain fully intact; the "Data Manager" app is simply renamed to "Data Inputs."
Enterprise Upgrades: Splunk Enterprise users gain cloud-exclusive Edge Processor commands, including decrypt, xml_to_object, and OCSF.
Technical Strategy: Bringing Your Workflows Together
We are moving away from siloed interfaces and toward a cohesive experience. The new Data Management app now serves as a hub to relevant experiences with a consistent look and feel. Whether you are configuring inputs, monitoring ingestion health, or managing federated connections or datasets, you can now do it all from one location.

Feature Deep Dive: What’s New in the Data Management Experience
When you log in as an administrator on either Splunk Cloud or Splunk Enterprise, you will notice “Data Management” in the app list. Here is what you can expect to find new in each:
Data Management on Splunk Cloud
Home: A landing page with high-level information and quick access to the existing pipeline processing capabilities of Edge and Ingest Processor.
Data Inputs (Formerly Data Manager): We have renamed the “Data Manager” app to Data Inputs. Don’t worry—your existing configurations, pipelines, and settings remain exactly as they are. The name change simply makes it easier to identify this as the destination for configuring and operating your cloud data sources.
Ingest Monitoring: Keep a pulse on your data health with out-of-the-box dashboards that help you track volume, latency, and data gaps across your entire deployment.
Remote Dataset Configuration: We are introducing a single setup model for external data. You can now define connections and datasets once, then use them seamlessly across both Edge and Ingest Processor for data routing and with our new Federated Search capabilities.
Data Management on Splunk Enterprise
Home: A landing page with high-level information and quick access to the existing pipeline processing capabilities of Edge Processor.
Edge Processor: A pipeline building and preview experience with an expanded repertoire of commands previously exclusive to the cloud, including: decrypt, xml_to_object / object_to_xml, ocsf & apply custom command functions enabling more robust data processing directly within your Enterprise environment.
Strategic Value: Why Centralized Data Management Matters
By centralizing these experiences, we are reducing the "context switching" that can slow you down. With a shared visual language and a unified navigation structure, you can spend less time hunting for the right tool and more time deriving value from your data.
Consolidation of Data Management experiences
This update is part of our broader commitment to the Cisco Data Fabric, ensuring that as your data strategy evolves—whether you are using Splunk-managed indexes or federated data lakes—your management experience remains consistent and efficient.
Implementation Roadmap: What Do You Need to Do?
The best part? No action is required on your part.
You will automatically see the Data Management app with updated navigation in your Splunk Cloud environment when these changes go live on your stack. Your existing configurations are fully preserved, and your workflows will continue to function exactly as expected. We encourage you to explore the new experience and see how much faster it is to move between your monitoring, ingestion, and dataset management tasks.
Collaboration: We Want Your Feedback
This is just one part of our journey to simplify data management. As you explore the new interface, please share your thoughts with us. Your feedback is vital as we continue to refine the experience to better serve your needs.
