We are attempting to include links to dashboards and external sites within the "Notable Fields" section. We have tried using <a> and <link> and various configurations of tags and have not been able to figure out how to get anything to display as a clickable link. Are clickable links an option with this app?

Hello, I need have some windows logs that come in via forwarders that contain an IP address that I need to do a reverse lookup on. You can easily do this at search time, however the the IP addresses in the log are DHCP and frequently change. So i need to insert a field for the name at index time. Is this possible? I have read a previous post that said there was not a way but it was an older post so I was wondering if it may be possible now? Thanks

You probably already did this but if not, i would grep your splunkd.log for words like DateParserVerbose and WARN and ERROR etc.. You could also see if you can find exactly what index has too many buckets. If it is one of your own or one of the built in Splunk indexes, that could help narrow your search for the issue.

Not sure exactly what you are asking but Splunk support closed the case right after they provided the DateParserVerbose error answer. As far as I can tell that is likely the problem. I still have some bad data sources from databases etc that have output that throws the error and makes too many buckets every once and a while.

I have been dealing with Splunk support on this issue. They think it may be the fact that I have some data sources that have events that are way off in time from other events with the same source (due to some devices incorrectly being set in different time zone than all others). When time is that far off, apparently Splunk does not know how to deal with it and sticks it in a separate index. Do you see messages like this in your splunkd.log?

I have been getting the following type message for the _internal and other indexes: The percentage of small of buckets created (75) over the last hour is very high and exceeded the red thresholds (50) for index=_internal, and possibly more indexes, on this indexer.
What could be causes of this and how do I go about troubleshooting to determine what the cause of this may be? I have not been able to find anything yet in logs.

I would like to set up alerts which would let me know if no events come in for a particular source or index between a certain time span. For instance, if my firewall stops sending events into Splunk within 5 or 10 minutes, I would like to receive an alert or if a server does not send one in a few hours etc.
What would be the most efficient way for me to accomplish this considering that some of these data sources are fairly large?

I am unable to get the Cb Defense Add-on to load. This is in a fresh version of Splunk 7.1.3.
I Install the add-on, restart Splunk, click on the add-on link and it just sits there with a"loading" indicator but then never loads. It also eventually gives;
Unable to initialize modular input "carbonblack_defense" defined inside the app "TA-Cb_Defense": Introspecting scheme=carbonblack_defense: script running failed (exited with code 1).

I saw that in the documentation but it said it was for a heavy forwarder, I am using a Universal Forwarder. I will give it a try and see, it would allow me to separate better than the way I was doing it with the default group. Thansk

Hello,
I currently have some Windows Servers with the Universal Forwarder installed that are sending data to our indexer. I am now in a situation where I need to have the forwarder also send the data to a third party server. According to the documentation, the following in outputs.conf should send all data;
[tcpout]
[tcpout:fastlane]
server = 10.1.1.2:1517
sendCookedData = false
However, I have the third party server getting data but only is receiving "INFO" type logs which appear to be transaction type information from the splunk forwarder program itself and not the actual log data (windows events iis etc.) that I am sending into splunk that I need.
Am I missing something or will the universal forwarder not send that data?

Hello,
I have a couple of sources that Splunk is nicely automatically pulling the fields I need into the "Interesting Fields". One is active directory and other is a json. The problem is that I need to use these fields in a data model, but they are not named the same. Is there a way to map these fields to a name so I don't have to manually create an extraction for each? If not, is there anywhere I can see what regexes Splunk is using to extract the fields so I can make sure I get them right?

I determined that there it was an indexes.conf file under the appname\default directory that still had the index. I did not find it earlier because when i did search for indexes.conf under the root, my account did not have permission to that folder. I removed the index there and it is no longer showing up.

Hello,
I was having a problem with an index created by an app, so I manually created one as a test. I went to delete the index with the splunk remove index command. It says "Unable to remove disabled indexes.." I go to enable the index so I can delete it and it says "deleted, cannot enable..". I am caught in a loop. I cannot find the index in indexes.conf anywhere. Looks like the indexes.conf files have not been modified in some time. I am not sure how to remove this index and I really need the index name for the app to work.
