In order to take the exam, is class/course compulsory?

E.g. Can a person register for "Splunk Fundamentals Part 2" certification without taking the course for "Splunk 8.0.1 Fundamentals Part 2".

The prerequisite courses listed below are highly recommended, but not required for candidates to register for the certification exam.

That is what is written on those Certification Tracks on some of certifications. But on higher level you must also pass those courses and labs to participate Cert exams.
