My Splunk Cloud trial URL returns "Error 500". How do I recover and complete the eval?

URL is https://prd-p-wls4v9ff8wtp.cloud.splunk.com

If that trial was created outside of 15 days prior to when you posted your question (12/25/16) then the trial had expired. Cloud trials are good for 15 days. You can convert them to a POC, then later if you purchase, to production. If it was past 15 days, the instance is gone and you'll need to start from scratch again, or look into starting up a POC with your local Splunk or partner representative.
