How can I plot events indexed over time?

This will give you how many events are indexed per hour for the past 24 hours. (for the default index)

index=main earliest=-24h | timechart span=1h count(_raw) AS count

this doesn't seem accurate.. I get like a few thousand events.. I know we index millions..
