I have been trying to login but got the 500 error. I changed the port and that worked for a while, but now that too will present the correct log in window then go straight to 500 error page as soon as I enter my deets. Any ideas?
What you have in server's $SPLUNK_HOME/var/log/splunk/splunkd.log?

Hello. I have seen 500 errors with bad cookies.
To test can you run in incognito mode? If you don't get the 500 then use your browser settings to delete the cookies for your Splunk server.
This has worked for me a number is times.
