Splunk Python SDK multiprocessing

My code uses splunk and the python sdk. It firsts connects to splunk. Then it creates two child processes, who each run their own search. My question is, why is this slower than just not creating any child processes, and just running one search after the other? Is it because I am using the same connection with each child? Is it because I am using a blocking search? Does splunk allow you to have one connection running multiple searches at once?
