clean all index command will erase admin password?

i found when i do clean all -f command, then the admin password i set will not work and back to original setting "changeme". Is this normal? the version is 4.1.4. Thanks

Yes, if you use the "clean all" command you will lose passwords for locally stored users such as the "admin" user, who will see his password reset to the default value.

To avoid this, you can selectively clean the eventdata from specific indexes :

$SPLUNK_HOME/bin/splunk clean eventdata -index myindex

You can clean all data from all indexes by omitting the -index parameter. The difference between this and clean all is simply that the passwords are reset and local internal log files are deleted
