What does "default app inherited from" mean in "users" page?

In the page "Access Control > Users",
most users got "system" in the "default app inherited from" column,
but someone got "user", and another one got a blank in that column.

What does it mean?
How can I edit it?

It means default app inherited from splunk role that user belongs to. If default app is not set to splunk role then user inherits it from "system" for which default app is launcher.

If you want to change default landing app for a user then check this: https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.3/Admin/ConfigureSplunktoopeninanapp#Set_a_default_...
