Whoops, I accidentally lost the admin password to the Splunk Cloud Free Sandbox that I'm trying out. Doh!
I don't see any reset-password feature at the sandbox login page
I surely hope there's something I can do to reset it or recreate the sandbox entirely (its empty).
I'm not sure you can do a password reset with the online sandbox, but the Online Sandbox FAQ says:
I cannot access my Splunk Online Sandbox, but my 15 days are not up. What do I do?
You can request a new sandbox if your sandbox becomes unavailable. If a sandbox becomes unavailable during the 15-day term due to circumstances beyond your control, it will not be not counted against your total number of sandboxes.
So your best bet is to use the online sandbox help form and make your request there.

1) Login into Splunk cloud trial with your splunk.com credentionals
2) Click on Start trial and if you have existing cloud trial click the highlighted part on the splunk free trial page
3 ) It will redirect to the password reset option and you can reset your password
This is the correct solution.
To reset the admin password you will need to have access to the file system:
- move the $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/passwd file to passwd.bak
- restart splunk. After the restart you should be able to login using the default login (admin/changeme).
If you created other user accounts, copy those entries from the backup file into the new passwd file and restart splunk.
or
try like this :
./splunk edit user admin -password <New_Splunk_Admin_Password> -role admin -auth admin:changeme
Thanks, but that's not what I need. I'm talking about this:
The Splunk Online Sandbox is a free and personal online environment where you can explore the Splunk Enterprise features. Using the Splunk Online Sandbox, you can search, analyze, and visualize your own data or pre-populated data sets.
Unless I've missed something, I have no terminal access what so ever to that server. I have no splunk command on my machine to control that one. I only have my splunk.com login details, which wont let me remove the sandbox, change its password or do anything at all to solve this.
