How is Splunk webserver hosted?

How is Splunk web hosted? As in does it use tomcat or other such webserver in backend.

SplunkWeb uses CherryPy, a Python-based web framework.

Older versions of Splunk (3.x), used Twisted.

I haven't been able to find any documentation referring to Apache, or Tomcat. On my Windows server it is running under the process of PythonService.exe. The documentation says that it is a Python-based application service.
