Does PDF Report Server require a Splunk Enterprise License?

Currently I'm running Splunk on Windows and I've now come to understand that, in order to have PDF reports delivered via alerts from Splunk on Windows, I am required to setup the PDF Report Server on a remote linux box and setup a reference to it.

Now, the PDF Report Server Add-On available via splunkbase.com says it's a free download, yet the description says it requires a Splunk Enterprise License (and will not work with the Free License).

So, does that mean my Splunk instance running on my Windows server needs a Splunk Enterprise License, but my Linux server running the PDF Report Server Add-On instance DOES NOT need one, or do BOTH my Splunk instance on Windows AND my PDF Report Server instance on Linux need a Splunk Enterprise License?

The PDF report server is an app that runs on a Splunk instance, just like the Windows app or the Unix app. It doesn't require an Enterprise license directly, but in order to send alerts any Splunk server requires an Enterprise license.

If your main indexing server is on a Windows machine, and you have PDF server is sitting on a separate Linux server, then just install the Forwarder License on that Linux instance. That's an Enterprise license that will enable all Enterprise features but the volume that comes with it is 1MB - so you can't index any data.

Aside - PDF reporting for Windows is currently in Development and should be available soon
