Hello,
I am trying to install splunk on Solaris. However, I don't see any pkg file from .z file although I extracted it. Where can I get 6.2.1 pkg file for Solaris?
Thanks,
Hi @aljohnson_splunk,
Would you mind, can you provide me full link of wget URL 6.2.1 splunk?
Hi @tmahfoudi; you can generate your own on the right side of the download page
Hi @aljohnson_splunk
I think you don't fully understand my question. I am not asking whether I can't download .Z file or not. The link has pkg.Z file but when you hit the download button, it will download as .Z file instead of pkg.Z file. I think the link is pointing to wrong location.
From my testing with wget or direct link,
It will save the file as splunk-6.2.1-245427-solaris-10-sparc.z instead of splunk-6.2.1-245427-solaris-10-sparc.pkg.Z

On the download page, select the pkg.Z file:
As you mentioned, the first you thin you need to do is uncompress:
uncompress splunk-6.2.1.pkg.Z
The uncompressed file will have the same file name, minus the Z, in the same directory.
Secondly, you'll need to
pkgadd -d ./splunk-6.2.1.pkg
After that, a list of the available packages is displayed.
Select the packages you wish to process (the default is "all").
The installer then prompts you to specify a base installation directory.
To install into the default directory, /opt/splunk, leave this blank.
Documentation here
Basically Z file does not contain any PKG file.
Hi @tmahfoudi
Please be sure when responding to @aljohnson_splunk, type in the "Add your comment..." box directly below his response. Right now you keep going to the very bottom of the page and typing in "Enter your answer here..." which is posting a brand new answer each time when you're really trying to leave a comment. This will maintain the proper flow of the conversation. Thanks!
Once I click the pkg.Z file, it will change to .Z file ans download as .Z instead of pkg.Z file. Can you try and download whether you can download as pkg.z file or not?
I tested it to make sure; the public link does indeed download a pkg.Z. What you might want to try is doing the wget option:
The problem is that I did not see "splunk-6.2.1.pkg.Z" file from the Splunk download website. When I click the link for pkg.z file, it download as sparc.z file instead of pkg.z file.
Just download the pkg.Z file. I uploaded a screenshot. You can download Splunk for free !
