Is there any official documentation or best practice recommendation on how to migrate a MC to a new server for a distributed deployment in 8.2?

The MC is just a search head so follow the instructions for migrating a SH to new hardware at https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/9.0.4/Installation/MigrateaSplunkinstance

In a nutshell: stop MC, copy $SPLUNK_HOME to new server, install Splunk on the new SH, start Splunk.

I doubt it but just set it up from scratch.  It only takes a few mintues.
