HA License Usage

With Splunk-4.2 (license manager), should a purchased HA-license go into the normal license pool on the production license manager along with the real license? Is this a tolerated use of the license?

Doing this presumes that the Indexer(s) in the DR (Disaster Recovery) location would use the production license manager for its licensing needs.

Of course this raises a different concern, which is, if you are deploying a DR Splunk environment is it wise to have your license-manager be in the production facility only? This seems to me to answer the first question, and perhaps each site should be stand-alone to ensure the DR facility can function without the production facility.

In case of forwarder passing logs to 2 indexer, can I setting up one indexer have full license and another one indexer use free license? Is forwarder still forward to both indexer node but cannot search log in free license node?

The HA license is for the scenario where you would have your forwarders send all data to 2 different indexers all the time. So that if one went down all data would still be available.

What is purpose of HA license? Is it for Stand by node in case of cluster environment on Indexer?

Putting both licenses in a single pool, would result in double the amount, so would not be acceptable according to the license. My understanding that the HA license only differs in the price on the quote, no actual differences in functionality. You would need to either create a second pool on the license manager for that HA server, or have a second license manager.
