Retrieve JSON payload using REST API

Hi,

I have an application that exposes performance metrics via a REST API. - that is - I can issue a HTTP REST message to this application, and it will return a JSON payload with that system's latest performance metrics.

What do I need to do in order to get SPLUNK to invoke this REST API periodically, and, retrieve this information, save it, and make t available in a dashboard ??

I'm new to splunk (as if that wasn't obvious :))

thanks - S

I can't find it in the docs, either. I can, however, find an app for this in the store, "REST API Modular Input":

https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/1546/

Which appears to totally work.

The only place i can find it - and for the life of me, i can't find it in the docs either - is if you go to Settings>Data Inputs>REST>New in the Web Interface. I'm sure it's saved off in the inputs.conf file but i haven't checked.
