Is there a filesize limit for data inputs?

I have a data file of 250mb.
Each time I try and input the data via add data, file or directory, I get object error.
I can preview the first 1.9mb of the file successfully.
I have inputed similar file formats that were smaller sizes before without any issues.
I suspect it maybe the filesize that is causing the problem.
Is there a filesize limit for data inputs? If so what is the filesize limit?
Can the limit be increased to 250mb? If so how?

Thanks for the response but the filestatus tool did not provide any assistance in determining why the file does not load. any other ideas
