Getting Data In

Is Splunk good for inputting text data into?

My boss wants me to use Splunk to analyze log files, but I do not have access to the server so he's sending me data text files instead. It is my understanding from seeing Splunk that it runs on a more automatic basis where it connects with the server and analyzes the data from there. I was curious to know if Splunk is good for inputting these text files into the program and then analyzing them or if I'm better off using something more like a Spreadsheet program?

You can monitor a folder with Splunk and have it index data as new data comes into the folder. This is a very common use case.
