Getting Data In

Any apps for data-entry/indexing data within a form?

I was looking for a way to capture hosting events (maintenance, planned downtimes, unplanned downtimes, etc) and log them in splunk. I could just index a file on a server and append well formatted text to and have splunk ingest it.... Or, I could have a simple web view within splunk, fill in the data, submit it and have splunk index it. The latter seems a bit nicer.

I would look into the App KVStore to implement this. Walk through the tutorial here and see if that meets your needs for your use case.

Yep either seems good! What specifically is your question? We generally don't do general discussion in this forum. Have a look at https://answers.splunk.com/page/faq.html

That said if you have specific questions about either method please feel free to ask!

I thought I've seen other people ask 'is there an app for____', which is what I thought i was asking. Is that not appropriate?

Ah yes fair enough. Your title is a pretty clear question . I just couldn't quite tell what you were asking in the question text itself 🙂 My bad.
