Hi Splunkers!

I'm intending to install Splunk on a Windows server for testing and I want to determine which is the optimal configuration.

  1. Install OS and Splunk on the same drive C: and move the indexes to drive 😧
  2. Install OS on drive C: while Splunk and its indexes on drive 😧
  3. Install OS on drive C: Splunk on drive 😧 and move the indexes to E:

Is there any significant performance difference?

Appreciate your advise.

Do you actually have separate physical disks for each drive letter, or are you simply partitioning? And are all the disks the same speed and size? Of course, if you have three identical drives, that will be better than two of the same drive.
