Where do I find $SPLUNK_HOME to add a custom JavaScript file?

Hello,

I am using Splunk enterprise 6.3. I am at a point where simple XML is not enough for what I would like to do in Splunk's dashboards. I am thinking about adding custom javascript to the simple XML. I have seen all over the documentation about how to do this, but I can't seem to find the folder where you should put your javascript (I think it is SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps/<app_name>/appserver/static/). At a higher up level I can't find any $SPLUNK _HOME folder at all. I'm not sure if this a permissions issue or I'm just bad at looking. Any help would be useful!

$SPLUNK_HOME is the top-level directory into which you installed Splunk.

Thank you for your reply!

I am new to Splunk so maybe I am super confused and completely wrong on this but the problem is that I am using Splunk enterprise and there is no installation directory. Instead I use a browser with a log in to access Splunk. So I'm still not sure where it would be located

If you're on windows, it's probably C:\Program Files\Splunk.
You could also try and do the following search in splunk:

index=_internal component=Metrics

And try to see if you can find the path mentioned in the field "source" of these events.
