Splunkd hung after deleting index from UI

I am using single box Splunk 6.2.4 and I have several forwarders constantly sending events to my test index.
Since it was a test index, I deleted it from UI by clicking "Settings" > "Indexes" and then "Delete" link of my test index without stopping my forwarders from sending events to this index.
After deleting my test index from UI, I got a error message saying "Timed out while waiting for splunkd daemon to respond (Splunkd daemon is not responding: ('Error connecting to /servicesNS/-/search/data/indexes: The read operation timed out',)). Splunkd may be hung".
Can someone let me know the root cause and if this issue has been fixed in later versions ?

The issue you mentioned here was caused by SPL-96089 and fixed in 6.3.0.
There was some situation which can cause a race between IndexProcessor and the process-spawn call for directory removal when deleting an index. Please upgrade to versions later than 6.3.0 to fix this issue.
