Hello Splunkers,

Ever wanted to learn more about observability but got swamped in tech jargon? Curious about how to deliver the best customer experiences, reduce downtime, and spend less time in on-call incidents?

The Developer Evangelism team has created a bunch of great games introducing observability concepts, and to sweeten the deal, we’re even going to do giveaways of Cisco Store merchandise credit that you can use to update your Splunk gear collection over the next few weeks after you play them. (Restrictions apply, see footnote for eligibility details.)

What to Expect:

  • Interactive Learning: Complete 5-minute games covering OpenTelemetryCode Profiling, and Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM).
  • AI-Powered Insights: Explore how the Splunk AI Assistant for Observability streamlines incident investigation.
  • Rewards: Earn Cisco Store credit for Splunk gear by participating in the bi-weekly game challenges.
  • Expert Resources: Access engineer-led webinars, Tech Talks, and YouTube demos alongside each game launch.

Core Observability Concepts You’ll Master

  • Code Profiling
    • What’s a code profiler do? How can it help you find the root cause of performance issues?
  • Digital Experience Analytics
    • How do you tie business outcomes to application performance? What impact does downtime or slow performance have on revenue?
  • The Splunk AI Assistant for Observability
    • Not sure what’s wrong or where to start investigating? Ask our AI Assistant and have it tell you.
  • OpenTelemetry
    • OTel is the foundation of any observability practice. Learn about how pipelines work and how to get data from your apps into an observability system.
  • Splunk’s overall Observability portfolio
    • What products does Splunk offer and what issues do they solve?

Each game can be completed in under 5 minutes, and can be done with just your mouse. They’ve got all cool soundtracks, but can be muted if you don’t want your boss to know you’re playing games. We won’t tell.

Finally, in addition to the games, we’ll also share links in our blog posts to content created by engineers for engineers, including our community blog posts, our YouTube playlist, and even interactive webinars, demos, and tech talks. You won’t want to miss anything.

OK, so how do you get that sweet Cisco store credit? All you’ll need to do is check back in this space every other week, starting this coming Monday, February 23rd at 9am PST to learn about the next game and to find out how to participate in the sweepstakes. You can get Cisco Store credit for every game, so check in often, and tell your friends. In the meantime, why not share which topic you’re most excited about in the comments below, or let us know if there’s an observability concept you just don’t grok. Maybe your suggestion could become our next game!
