I would like to tial App Dynamics for a node.js application deployed on SmartOS. I see that this is not a supported configuration, but was wondering what the options were.
Is this something we can get working somehow?

At this point we do not have any workaround to deply our nodejs solution on smart os. As you already know that this is not a supported platform at the moment but you can get more information for other details from https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO39/Supported+Environments+and+Versions+for+Node.js
Request you to try our solution on Linux / Mac OSX.

That is unfortunate. We are trialing different solutions and unfortunately AppDynamics is no longer a candidate because of this.
