The reason for this error was the exisitence of jar files from earlier releases of the machine agent in the /lib directory. Besides unzipping the new machine agent you should also remove the previous jar files or just start with an empty directory. When redeployed in a new directory, the error stopped occurring and the Analytics agent started successfully.
