Hi

i am getting the following error while using the HTML module ..

an HTML module is configured to get 13 rows, but the maxRows param is only set to 10. The answer is probably to rework the configuration at the search langauge level to need fewer row

Please Help

Well admittedly the official docs don't talk about this
( "Module Documentation > HTML Module > Embedding HTML and including dynamic results" )

but from that page you can click the link that says "Read the specification for the Sideview module: HTML and its params."

and that will take you to this page

http://YOURHOST:8000/en-US/modules#Splunk.Module.HTML

and if you scroll down a tiny bit you'll see some information about the 'maxRows' param.

DON'T SET THIS unless you really know what you're doing. HTML won't let configurations pull down more than this number of rows. If you really want to raise this number a little you can, but be careful. Don't set it to anything big because the browser will have to pull down a lot of json. Instead use the search language to rearrange your data into a more compact form with a smaller number of rows.

Can you describe why you're trying to render out so many rows with the HTML module?

It's probably better to use the Table module instead, or to use the Multiplexer module even. Can you edit your question to add more details above? or ask a new question for it?

It's OK, it's just weird. 99% of the time, there's just a much better way than raising this param, and raising this param amounts to doing something a really hard way. Like tearing apart a refrigerator and mounting it in your passenger seat instead of using the air conditioner.

If you ask it as a separate question I'm happy to answer. It may involve reworking the search or using the Table module with the table embedding feature, or using postprocess, or using the Multiplexer module maybe, or a combination - it varies wildly depending on the use case.
