Splunk App for VMware (FA VM)

According to the how-to videos, the FA VM appliance needs to be on the same subnet as both ESXi host and VC? What if we're using external switch tagging to segregate traffic for respective port groups. Is the app no longer a viable option? Thanks.

Basically the FA VM needs to be able to:
- Access the VMware ESX/ESXi hosts and the vCenter servers on the network through port 443 (default https) .
- Forward data to the appropriate indexer.

If you can guarantee that then you will be fine.

This is covered on this page, http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/VMW/2.0/Install/AbouttheFAVM.

Let me know if that works

You should be fine with the default certs. We have not seen this to be a problem so far in any install. Let us know if you find out otherwise.

Thank you. Also, do the VMware default certificates work as well (i.e. trust stores etc..). We don't have to renew the self-signed host certs?
