How to reduce amount of data collected by Unix Performance App? (e.g. 200 MB/day)

JeanD

We are evaluating the use of the Unix app to monitor our Unix servers.

Right now with all the default options enabled, we are collecting about 200 MB per day of data from a large Linux server. This is too high for a large deployment, e.g. 100 Linux servers.

We have identified the main sources of data (e.g. ps with 160 MB per day, netstat, etc), and before we start changing scripts (e.g. ps.sh) to reduce the amount of data I was wondering how other people have resolved this problem?

Thanks very much. Jean

From the UI, go to Manager » Apps and find the unix app. Select the setup link from under the actions menu. From there, you can decrease the polling interval if you'd like, that should help to some degree. You could also deselect the enabled button to disable a particular item of concern(ps,sh,etc).

You can also reach them via Manager -> Data Inputs -> Scripts, and consider disabling any inputs that you don't use.
