I would like to see a splunk extension specifically adapted for flowing CDR records managemnet from Cisco VOIP solutions.
Indeed. I am working on one, as well as several other apps. I'll admit that this one is not my highest priority at the moment but that could change.
Im very curious to hear your thoughts about what such an app might need, whether there are additional data sources beyond the CDR records themselves, to what extent and in what way you'd want to see records roll up into larger transactions, etc.. .
It should be possible to create an initial working version of the app in less than a week. If you're interested in working on one together let me know.
UPDATE: The app exists now. Check it out on sideviewapps.com or on Splunkbase.
UPDATE: This is several years after the above update, and the app is now a very robust and mature solution for Cisco UCM/CallManager, with a large and growing customer base. Call quality reports, utilization reports, simple call reports, extremely advanced call routing or UCCX reporting, agile moment-to-moment troubleshooting, and everything in between. It is a remarkable tool. You can download a free 90 day trial here http://sideviewapps.com/apps/splunk-for-cisco-cdr/ . Installation and setup takes 15 minutes or less if you already have a machine to install Splunk on. Installation and setup docs are here - http://sideviewapps.com/apps/splunk-for-cisco-cdr/docs/
I would be interested also. The one that is built is contains too much information.
Are you referring to the "Splunk for Cisco CDR" app on Splunkbase? I'd love to hear more about how I can improve it. Send anything and everything to nick@sideviewapps.com and I'll do my best to improve the future versions of the app to address your concerns.
Add another person to the list of people that want to see a splunk app to process Cisco CDRs off of CUCM 7.x. I'm more than happy to give feedback on what we are looking for out of such a solution. The only other data source I can think of would be long distance rate tables so you can assign a cost to long distance calls.
I'd love to hear your feedback. I put up my "Splunk for Cisco CDR" app a while ago but I confess on many axes I was flying blind, as far as what customers actually want. Fortunately I'm able to iterate very quickly and if you tell me what you'd like it to have I'd be happy to include those features in future versions. You can email me at nick@sideviewapps.com. Send any requirements and any sample data, or any feedback at all.
looking for CDR solution as well!!! 🙂
Where are we on this?
I too am interested in a plugin for cdr/cmr information. I really only care about the CMR portion because I am looking at things from a voip call quality perspective. Having a custom view our supports staff can quickly search by user name, find calls made and their quality.
feel free to hit me up about this idea. I nothing comes up I too may have to try and write something 🙂
I launched my "Splunk for Cisco CDR" app a while ago, and it does actually read CMR as well as CDR data, stitch them both together and provide reporting on any fields across both sets of records. I've since learned that later versions of CallManager dont actually include a timestamp field in the CMR records, so you might find that it only works if you run all searches over all time. At any rate I'd love to continue this conversation over email. I'm nick@sideviewapps.com. Cheers
Any updates on these efforts? I am in process of building a CDR app for Avaya Communication Manager systems, and would be ideal to match the form and function of this with the Cisco CDR application you are working on.
Goal: Similar interface (possibly universal), various backend inputs.
I have it in my queue to build an Avaya app along similar lines. If you're willing to send your app, or requirements or sample data please do. You can email me at nick@sideviewapps.com for any reason.
I'm actually working on this as well. I've got my app mostly completed, and I'd planned on tossing it up in SplunkBase. I'm just working on a final dashboard now. Have you guys started in on yours?

You can email me at nick@sideviewapps.com, and check out my "Splunk for Cisco CDR" app which is on Splunkbase now. I would appreciate any and all feedback. Maybe it works for you, maybe it does not at all. Either way.
I think it would be a pleasure to colaborate with you on this project. I have all the formatting at hand, and even have our CDR set to offload into splunk as we speak.
