Can the REST API Modular Input be configured to store credentials in the credential store

I want to store credentials for the API's in a more secure manner, such as the credential store

Not out of the box , but it is a code customization we have performed for customers in the past.
Basically take a fork of the codebase and build a custom REST Modular Input with the necessary credential store requirements.
