HOW TO SET UP AN ALERT FOR VARIOUS EXCEPTIONS THAT COME UP IN LOG FILE

Please let me know the steps to set up an alert for the exceptions eg null pointer exception in case if my log file is in servame/abc1/abc/tt.2012_3_3.log. Daily I want to monitor the log file for this exception.

Please tel me steps to include the directory structure for searching the log file and then for an exception.
