Printers or Multi-Function Printer (MFP) are devices equipped with memory, hard drive, graphical user interface and USB interfaces. When it sits on a corporate network, it functions similar to servers and desktops. Therefore they are equally vulnerable to cyber-attack like those that target at servers and desktops. However, many security solutions focus more on servers and desktops. Printers and MFPs are often neglected or not sufficiently protected. While the plethora of security advices are available to harden these devices, there is no real holistic solution to monitor or detect security events emitted from them in real-time. This Splunk app is therefore developed to ingest HP printer logs in real-time and monitor, detect and report critical security events through log analysis.
