It appears that logging out and back in will fix the problem. It indicated it needed to uninstall my downloads, which I didn't want to do. I presubscribed a second time through Google Play, which fixed the problem, then emailed them to request a refund. After four days, they responded by cancelling the extra subscription.
And when I submitted my support request, I received this auto response email.
