Your Most Pressing Questions Answered

• Q. Do you need a license for something additional to Splunk enterprise?
• A. Yes - Splunk Real User Monitoring (RUM) or Splunk Synthetic Monitoring can be purchased as a standalone solution. They were built from the ground up in Splunk Observability Cloud and has a tight integration with Splunk Enterprise/Cloud.

• Q. In the RUM, is there a way we can capture the username or id of the user based on the request attributes or from the page content which is displayed back to the user?
• A. This will depend on the traces that are coming in. If the URL has this set up, you will be able to pick up on this. We don’t pick up on any PII specific information - so if you are passing on that metric we’ll be able to pick up on this. 

• Q. When will all of the Synthetics (Rigor) features be available in Observability?
• A. When we started the Splunk Observability suite, our Synthetic monitoring product was born from a separate platform Splunk acquired known as Rigor. We’ve achieved all the code functionality requirements between both the platforms, so most of the features in Rigor are now available in Splunk Synthetic Monitoring. We expect complete parity within the next two fiscal quarters and are happy to discuss any use case requirements you may have. 

• Q. Can we use the web optimization to compare the session performances in a blue green deployment as well ? 
• A. Ideally we just need a start URL and we’ll capture the changes we see in the page across different times and time frames. Based on how you choose to set it up, we’ll be able to tell based on the comparison. 

• Q. Would we have auto injection or instrumentation of RUM instrumentation in the future coming up (right now there is a requirement to add a few lines of code to our page)?
  • A.  This would be a very small amount of lines of code. This is something we’re considering adding to the onboarding and ‘getting started’ value. Since there is very little instrumentation already, we’re working toward this in the future.
