how do you comment in splunk?

how do you comment in splunk?
I have tried the below from the below ref, but cannot get it to work, (apologies I cannot get the single quote thing to appear as I would like).

comment("THIS IS A COMMENT")`
comment("This part of the search returns only one value")`

I did think it was a single quote but not this single quote '. the one that is used to format code in this text.
