Splunk Search

What is the TimeRangePIcker?

Path Finder

After upgrading to version 4.1.1, build 78281, Splunk shows a JavaScript prompt with the following error in the search app, after which nothing can be done in Search.

Splunk encountered the following unknown module: "TimeRangePicker" . The view may not load properly.

Anyone knows what is wrong/missing?

Seems like your upgrade is corrupt and you have outdated or missing files. First, clean out your browser cache and try again. Then if that doesn't work, you should check file permissions, make sure Splunk is stopped, and try running the installer again.

the user interface in Splunk 4 is divided up into lots of individual modules. TimeRangePicker is the pulldown menu that you see to the right of the search bar. What this error is indicating is that the browser ended up with a corrupted version of the file.

It is possible that the file on disk has gotten mangled somehow. However if you're using Firefox, another possibility is that you've hit a strange and quite rare bug that we've been trying to figure out. It really looks like a bug in firefox itself but we're still looking into it. At any rate the browser ends up with a truncated version of one or more files. When that file is a javascript file, it will throw a syntax error in the Javascript interpreter, and then later on the Splunk Interface will complain that something is missing like this.

If you are using firefox, check Tools > Error Console, and then select 'Errors'. I'll bet you'll see a a syntax error of some kind in TimeRangePicker.js.

Once you hit it, the partial version will get cached for a long time, so clear your cache to fix it. (Ctrl-Refresh, or Tools > Clear Private Data)
